Officially called Frankfurt am Main, the city is commonly referred to as just Frankfurt. Its urban area houses 2.3 million citizens, and is at the centre of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region, which is home to 5.6 million people.

Frankfurt is a city of sharp contrasts with contemporary modern buildings being placed right next to old historic ones in the city centre. It is worth taking a trip to the Romer Square and the many museums found along the River Main. Many of the cities neighbourhoods such as Bornheim and Nordend feature stunning 19th century architecture and parks that are rarely visited by tourists, which are worth seeking out if you have a spare moment to do so. The city is also home to many other cultural buildings as well as a world-class opera facility.
