Send a Parcel to Adelaide, Australia

The city of Adelaide is the 5th largest city in Australia. It is located on the Adelaide plains to the north of the Fleurieu peninsular. The name of Adelaide stems from the name of the Queen consort of King William the Fourth back in the 1,800s.

The city is Southern Australia’s seat of government and commercial centre and is home to many government bodies and financial institutions. It is home to just over 1.2 million citizens and the city is noted for its numerous cultural festivals and large scale sporting events. It has beautiful long beaches that attract many tourists and locals alike. Its main industries are the defence and manufacturing sectors.

Adelaide was first declared as a new territory in 1,836 and was planned as one of the first free immigrant colonies whereby it would be inhabited by people who had willingly emigrated to Australia, rather than convicts. However all did not go well as escaped criminals from New South Wales carried out several murders, which actually resulted in the forming of the first South Australian police force.

The city has previously held a Formula One Grand Prix for several years on a street circuit although this is no longer held there, the Australian V8 supercars do make use of sections of the former Formula One track.

Adelaide has seen much boom and bust over the years not helped by the 1991 State Bank collapse, the effects of which rippled on for many years.

The climate is Mediterranean and winter sees the most rainfall, but it rarely if ever freezes. The city has extensive transport links although when shipping parcels to Adelaide from Europe you do need to factor in the air flight time to get there as well as the fact that the distances between major cities can be huge, and land based parcel delivery services will take more time than in Europe due to the distances.
